Stay as large as you can with tangs, they are active fish.

set up the 55g as the QT tank last night. bought a new filter, heater, 55g R/O, salt, and took the time to set it up. I might as well QT the Trigger i guess, 55g is a lot of water to "waste" on 2 2" tangs for 2 weeks...

I would not consider it a waste because the QT period may end up being longer. I would advise putting the trigger straight into the tank since they are known to be sensitive to handling. The less handling equals a great chance for success. Good luck and good job.

Ok, I’ll take your advice and QT just the 2 tangs and put the Sargassum Trigger directly into the DT. Thanks for all your help and suggestion on this thread.

ICK aside, should I treat the QT tank for anything (other parasites/worms/stuff that I don’t want making it into my DT that might not already be there) or just monitor them and treat accordingly?

Also, thought I might as well post a pic of the Sargassum Trigger I picked up, very excited about it. Been looking for one on the smaller side for some time now and when I saw this guy on Diver’s Den at under 5” I jumped on it. Not the 2-3” I wanted but 4 and ¾” isn’t too big and should be a good size to jump in and settle down without aggravating to many other fish. He will be the largest fish in the tank, maybe my Malarus (spelling) is about 4-5” but he hides most of the time anyways.

Since this was from the Diver's Den and not LA, this is supposed to be an exact WYSIWYG picture of the Trigger, looks like great colors to me

Wow! Amazing looking trigger! As far as anything else to use in the QT, I would suggest using some PraziPro and at the very least prophylactically treat with it. Two rounds either before or after the ich "treatment" if you decide to also prophylactically treat for ich. PraziPro is a med for flukes/worms (contains Praziquantel) and is 100% safe (it is also supposedly reef safe but I've never attempted it myself in a reef). I've never seen any ill effects of using it and always treat my fish with it during QT. Fish always eat just fine during treatment and never show signs of stress. It also will not kill or hurt the bio filter.

I have read on PraziPro and seen good results, what specific brand/medication do you suggest using for the ICK treatment? Obviously treating the PraziPro and ICK Treatment separately

Thanks for the kind words on the Trigger, i'm very excited. Most expensive fish i have bought yet, including my years in freshwater. But not too bad for 150 as i saved on the tangs and got the car blue for 30 and kole eye for 35.

For ich you have 3 options, hyposalinity (must keep constant at 1.008-1.009 with a good refractometer and preferably an ATO to make sure it doesn't exceed 1.009), copper (cupramine is my personal favorite and many others), or tank transfer.
Hypo is good in practice, but can be hard to keep the parameters perfect, imo. I personally just use cupramine now with a copper level around .35-.4. The bottle states to use .5, however, ich will be killed a level of around .3. This is also a good level if treating any angels in the future. I keep the copper at .35-.4 constant for 4-5 weeks and then observe for another 3-4 weeks after treatment is done. I would make sure the fish are eating well before starting and slowly ramp up the copper level over 4 days or so (that's what I do at least and it works for me).
Lately, it seems that tank transfer has been getting all of the rave for ich because it is a quick and very effective treatment (and ich only as it does nothing for velvet, cupramine will also kill and treat velvet if they happen to have it). Basically you transfer the fish to another tank and every 3 days in the early morning. Sterilize the current tank and 3 days later transfer it back to that tank. I've even heard of people using 5 gallon buckets with an airstone and heater with some smaller fish to do this. After transfering them back on day 13, you are done with the treatment! Day 1 put fish in, day 4 transfer tanks, day 7 transfer tanks, day 10 transfer tanks, day 13 transfer tanks and done! It basically exploits the lifecycle of ich.

Gorgeous trigger, I would treat with the prazi-pro and cupramine.

we're talking just the Tangs for treatment, right? Since the Trigger will go directly into the DT, or so advice has suggested :)
