Needed some color in the tank and ALW suggested the Royal Gamma. Had a few choices at the store and we thought this one looked the best. He said his likes to hide in the back of the tank and only come out when feeding. This guy has only stayed in the front of the tank and swims around a lot.

Hey! Great fish! Actually I'm also planning to get Gramma Loreto! I've seen them in my LFS, they look fantastic and really scary when other fish gets close to their cave :) best of luck!

Cool fish..... Keep an eye on it for a while. They seem to be prone to ich once acclimated.

This is a staple in every reef tank I ever have. One of my favorite fish and very hearty.

I have experienced the ick thing before on one (a HUGE one - never had one as big before or since) I had in my old 180 reef. The first time he got it I was decimated because there was no getting him out of the tank for treatment. But then later he actually cleared up. He got it a few more times and the same thing happened. I had a couple cleaner shrimp, but I don't believe Royal Gramma, being an Atlantic species, actually accept cleaning from Cleaner Shrimp.

It was interesting to say the least. He made it through with no adverse signs and survived happy and otherwise healthy until I had to break the tank down.

Love that fish, all the ones that I ever had never got ick, but they are aggressive. Luna

I think the aggressiveness is heavily influenced by tank size and available space. I always go light on fish load and have _rarely_ seen any of my Royal Grammas ever get aggressive. But then I hear from people all the time about how aggressive they are.

My current Royal Gramma is one of three fish in a 120, my last one of three in a 90 and the one before that one of 5 in a 180.

I happened to upload a pic of mine today. When I take a picture of this fish it always shows a line on it's face that's not visible to the human eye. Strange.

It's funny when it gets mad it opens its mouth real wide in an attempt to be scary.
