[glow=Navy, 3, 90%]My wife, Teresa, bought me a fish yesterday, to cheer me up after one of the longest weeks in my life. She picked it out, and I must say, I am delighted with it.

It is a juvenile Scopas Tang (Zebrasoma scopas), and he (Smokie) is a hoot to watch. At first, Sunny didn't care much for him. But now, they seem to be "buddies." Everywhere Sunny goes, Smokie is right behind him, picking at the rocks.

I just wanted to share. Here's a pic from the gallery. I hope to have some better ones soon.[/glow]

    Wrassman-

Do you feel a Scopas could be housed with an orange shoulder and naso? All are the same size. Tank size is adaquit and feeding is no problem. I've got a friend who wants one (I've got a bunch in stock, and he really wants another tang).

    Gresham,

The only problem I see is the Naso. They are not too friendly to other tangs. If possible, he could take the Naso out for a day, introduce the Scopas, then put the Naso back. That might eliminate some territorial problems (rearranging rock-work wouldn't hurt either).

Will it go well with a Powder Blue tang or an Emporer angel?

    Hey mango,

You should be fine with the angel, as long as they are introduced to the tank at approximately the same time. I'm not sure about the PBT, since it has a reputation for being fairly aggressive, and the scopas is fairly aggressive as well. So far, though, my scopas is getting along fine with my Mimic Tang (Acanthurus pyroferus). As long as they are small, I think they could probably work things out. ;D

    OK,

Here are the general guidelines for this tang thang! You can mix three genus - Zebrasoma, Acanthurus, and Ctenochaetus - without much trouble because they all have different dietary requirements and so don't compete for food. This removes a lot of the aggressive behavior. This is the case in Wrassman's Zebrasoma and Acanthurus where , other than the itial newness of a tank mate, the Mimic has accepted the Scopas.

Within these genus there are several species with varying degrees of aggressive behavior. I have found through experience that the Convict Tang Acanthurus triostegus, Yellow Eyed Kole Tang Ctenochaetus strigosus, and Sailfin Tang Zebrasoma veliferum are three of the more peaceful species of each genus and get along well in my tank. You can visit my Homepage to see pictures.

In general, for all fish, you avoid the vast majority of behavioral problems when fish are introduced together as juveniles and allowed to grow up together, and don't compete for the same natural food source, ie. algae in the case of the tangs.

    HTH :) ;) :D ;D 8)

[glow=Maroon, 2, 90%]I'm going to attempt to get some better shots of "Smokie." But, until then, I do have this another one with coralline algae on the glass. "Smokie" is looking for something to eat on the substrate. I have to admit, this Tang has become one of my favorite fish.[/glow]
