Hi everyone i am new to this forum and new to keeping an aquarium in general. I needed some help and advise. So we just ordered a fish tank coffee table from aquavim and it looks amazing. I went down to the local aquarium store to discuss the type of fish i can put, and the man there told me that the filter that the aquarium came built in with would not be able to handle saltwater. After researching a bit, i guess this is an under gravel system. what do you guys think? i wanted to put colourful saltwater fish, is this not doable then?

this is what the filter system looks like with two different pumps in the colums. and heres a link to the aqua vim product page.

All you really need for saltwater filtration, at the most basic, is rock, water movement and water changes. So, sure, you could do it. I'm not sure I'd bother with the under gravel filter though.

pretty cool idea. If you look at the setups on the site they are all fresh water. be sure to do your research if you plan on going salt

My LFS filled one of these (or something similar) filled with Softies, NPS, and Maxi Minis. I personally think that it's a really cool tank :)

Lighting would be a PITA, but you could go LED. There are some non-aquarium supply companies that sell really narrow optics, like 3-7 degrees. So, you could have a fixture up on the ceiling above it :)

thanks for all the replys guys. actually all four sides of the tank have led lighting on the tops. it has just about everything built in. so i emailed aquavim and they replied

"Filtration is a combination of close-loop under-gravel system and power head driven mechanical filters"

I get the closed-loop under-gravel system. Whats a power head driven mechanical filter?
