I plan on getting a couple new fish here in the next couple days. Was thinking royal gramma and either a lawn mower blenny or a bullet goby as I'm having some hair algae problems. Any thoughts on which one would be better - I've seen arguements about both here and elsewhere. I'm also getting some red "slime" algae on one rock, so want something that might help with that too. Also what can anyone tell me about the fire fish? They generally nice to others and such?

Forgot to mention - also was interested in the comet. Any thoughts about them?

This is a quote from LiveAquaria.com regarding the Comet, Calloplesiops altivelis:

"The Marine Betta is not commonly kept in a reef-style aquarium, but it is reported to be safe with corals and anemones, however, it will eat all small fish and shrimp. It is nocturnal and requires hiding places to provide it shelter from bright lighting, being more active at dusk.

When first introduced into a tank it is shy and may have difficulty feeding. Using live foods such as feeder fish or shrimp will help it adjust. Once acclimated, it can be fed meaty foods and frozen preparations 2-4 times weekly." Your ornamental shrimp are on its' menu.

The Royal Gramma would be good addition and should mix well with your clowns.

Can you get me a scientific name for the "bullet goby" as I'm not familiar with that common name? TIA.

Oh, and your planning on adding the fish three to four weeks apart right?

Craig, thanks for the responses! The scientific name for the bullet goby that I found is Amblygobius phalaena. There's another post on either the general or the newbie forum that mentions them and that they were great with algae. With my algae that I have, thought it might be nice. However, I just read that they tend to try and jump ship, and I don't have my tank top enclosed, so might not mess with him - maybe just stick with the lawn mower. You have any feelings on him? Also, what'd you think about the firefish?
And, yes, I will be introducing them 1 at a time with a few weeks in between. Won't be for a couple more weeks before I get anything too as I want to make sure I'm fully informed.
Any input you have would be greatly appreciated.

The fire fish have the penchant for jumping as well ,and so for that reason tanks with a depth of 20 - 24" are better IMO. A lwn mower blenny is a good way to go but be awrare they can be very territorial with other blennies and gobies.

A Hawk fish may be a good choice to go with your Gramma as well as a Fairy or Flasher wrasse. Wrasses can be jumpers as well, but they are absolutely beautiful.

Groups of firefish in odd numbers do awesome, they school loosley and look great once they have established a pecking order. My bullet goby almost starved to death as it not only took care of my brown alge on the sand but decimated all forms of algae that were visible including the fuzzy red jhair, hair, and turf. I side with the recomendation on the comet...unless you can aquire a tiny specimen and aclimate it to a well lit tank.....i wouldnt recomend it, not to mention they will eat what they can fit in thier mouths generally.
