I'm going to pick up a Royal Gramma I put on hold at the LFS tonight after my evening class. SO EXCITED; went by today to check and see if he was eating and he gobbled the brine readily so I went ahead and bought him :)

I'll post a picture whenever I can get one....since they hide sometimes it could be a while....

Be sure and give it a proper acclimation. They tend to be prone to ich.

They are a great fish but they are very territorial. Dont put a wrasse in with it or the wrasse will end up with a heart attack. I lost 3 fairy wrasse's this way.

he had a proper acclimation, just wondering; if he does get ich, which im discovering it is going to be hard to get a good look at him; how big are the white dots? I saw some really small specks on my females clown a long time ago but it turned out to be sand. Is there any real way to tell?

I had a Royal Gramma for literally years. Very hardy fish, IMO. It lived through a couple moves and tank upgrades. But the territorial issue is definitely true. While it was skittish and would hide a LOT, it would sometimes do the whole mouth-wide-open-stance-to-make-me-look-bigger thing. It was actually pretty hilarious. And yes one time I did add a 6-Line Wrasse and it immediately went for the Gramma's hiding spot. Mr. Gramma was NOT happy.

I recently just bought one to add to my nano- I have 2 clowns in with it and it seems to get along with them. It does like to hide alot and mine is a bit skittish to quick movements that happen around the tank but a beautiful fish.

They are prone to ICK because they dig in the substrate and that is where the ICK bacteria hangs out in tanks in the sand . so any fish that dig are prone to it mine got ICK but he also got over it after a while. very cool fish

yea, mine has found his little cave, i kind of arranged the rock hoping he would go for it and he did. Its kind of on the opposite side from where the clowns sleep so i think that will lessen the clashing between the female and the gramma. Didn't stop her from trying to poke around though and she was met with his wide mouth. Beautiful fish! I think its probably already adult size. Do you guys know how long they live usually?
