I posed this question in the middle of another thread but this is probably the better place for it.

Is there any disadvantage to my setting up a second sump type tank off of my new DT that I could then use as a frag tank?

Long term, I'm thinking of several smaller tanks pumbed in line with the main display. One tank would be used for frags, one as a specimen tank for fish that don't play well on a reef, and one as a quarentine tank:eek:. Alright, I'm just kidding about the QT.

I don't see why not! The only thing I would make sure to have is proper lighting. I think you would also have an increased demand for calcium and such as well...

I think there are more advantages to it then disadvantages.

You only have to monitor and maintain proper levels in one system.
You increase water volume for both systems.
there's a chance of the coral breeding between your DT and frag tank.

The only disadvantage I can think of is a catastrophic event would effect your DT and frag tank.
