Added a new mag glass cleaner was wondering if that would give you diatoms?
Sounds dumb but just wondering. I've heard when adding new plastics you get a little start up? Thanks

    That's not a dumb question.:)

Adding anything new, equipment wise, sometimes even base rock, will add silica to the water column, thus creating diatoms. It should go away by itself within a week or two, assuming you also have some snails. They help.

diatom blooms usually come from adding silicates, whereas most plastic have phosphates, which can be attributable to other types of algae growth.

Thanks seemed odd that I got diatoms since all my test came out at zero with new bulbs and that was the only thing I added.

Also would this effect the health of corals or anenomes?

Are the diatoms on those corals & anemones? or is it just on the rocks?
