I've heard so many names for this beast, it was sold as a Dragon. It's beautiful, very active and constantly sifting.

I'm going to name him dusty because it looks like a sandstorm in my tank.

That being said to those of you who own a goby is this sand storm perpetual or will it die down as the substrate conforms to his behavior?

Sorry about the pic it was hard to get a good photo with that must sand in the water column.

Do these things ever stop? It's like I bought the energizer bunny and put him in my tank.

Do they bother much with hermit crabs?

I had a dragon goby as well ( also sold as dragon)
They are constantly working on your sand, sand storms should settle eventually but one thing to keep I'm mind is that he Will place sand on corals, rock and everywhere.lol
Little sucker... I still loved him dearly. ( he jumped out).

They are very hardy. Mine survived through my noob year.
They don't bother anything, but do decorate :)

    great info, thanks for sharing.

I read an interesting tip somewhere to use a turkey baster to blast the rocks and corals free from the sand they deposit.

My lid is sealed up pretty well so unless he makes a break for it at feeding time i'm ok there.

More than anything making his burrow he sprayed sand all over the coral banded shrimp's cave and that seems to have been a source of irritation but I think everyone is coping.

+1 on what elwe just said. My brother in law had one and he spends all of his time sifting the sand through his gills. His was also sold as a Dragon Goby. Also jumped.

do you know if he ever tried making a pvc burrow for the goby so it wouldn't undermine the live rock?

then I shall purchase one tomorrow.

It will probably make target feeding my corals easier too. Better than the rigged up piece of air tubing and childs cough medicine syringe feeder system I'm using now lol

    same as above...
sold as a dragon goby and definitely dropped sand on low-lying corals. my was never a jumper, he always stated at the bottom which ultimately led to his death b/c he would never aggressively come to the top to eat. definitely a burrower - he had two caves under both of my large base rocks...make sure things are secure.

    cheers-
