Nope, he's the king of the low maintenance kings... Doesn't even water change, for which I jump up to his jugular several times without success. S

the idea of no water changes makes me cringe just thinking about it. Is his tank fairly healthy otherwise?

Nope, he keeps buying new stock to replace whatever dies in it. I convinced him to buy a skimmer a few months ago, and things have improved a lot since. I'm trying to get him to do a sump, even offered to build it for him but he doesn't want any extra work. I think I almost convinced him for the sump.

I hate it, but he's pretty set in his old ways. He used to have a FOLR tank up until I started adding corals to mine, and even after I tested all of his water parameters and told him he needed some serious 50% water change to start, he wouldn't do it. His nitrates were on the very sky, ph was completely wrong, ammonia was also high. I can't do anything for him because he won't let me. All I can do, is sit and watch. He's very well known in all out 3 LFS, since he's obviously a good live stock customer.

    Sad, very sad.

I keep trying to force things on him. Even challenged him that a water change will make his corals and fish look a lot better... I bet money and hit him where it hurts him the most, which is that my tank looks better, because I do water change and not top offs only.

Wow that really is nuts, he's just condensing the problems with the old water and the top off really can't have any positive effect. Does he at least use RO water.

I suspect they keep on selling to him because he's cash in the bank not considering whatever goes home is probably going to meet it's death.

I believe what you have is a Amblygobius phalaena, also know to liveaquaria as a brownbarred or sleeper banded goby. I've also heard it called a bullet goby as well. Just an FYI, a 29 gal tank is usually considered on the small side for a sand sifting goby because they can easily starve. Just make sure to keep it well fed. A trick I used to do is put some food in the sand bed near the opening to their home that way when they sift the sand the sand they get some food.

I understand that and have been target feeding him near his cave at the same time I'm feeding my corals every other day.

Good to hear, hopefully he does well for you and yeah, the sandstorm will settle down with time.

damn these things are messy eaters, I wonder what percentage of food makes it down the hatch. I've seen it pick up bites with mysid shrimp in it that I've left near it's burrowand it slips through the gills and ends up on the sand again.

the hermits however are enjoying his eating style except when it buries them in the sand.

I bought mine about a month ago. They do sift through the sand fairly well but he was the replacement of my yellow-banded goby sleeper which was the true animal in the sand. The dragon (or whatever it's technically called) seems to work out though. Mine is very timid which is interesting. I walk by and he shoots into the rocks.

It's been about a week now and the water has calmed quite a bit but there is still a slight haze.

This one seems pretty bold he will stay at the glass when I come into the room and hangs out all over the water column.
