I bought a new green chromis today for my 4 month old 30 gallon tank. I floated him for a good half hour before letting him go in his new home, and then he got a weird coloration on him. It went away after a while, but he didn't leave the spot he was in. I left the house for a little bit and now he has disappeared! What should I do?! I am concerned about him, and my clownfish

what are your parameters? ammonia, Nitrite, nitrate, PH

they often darken up on introduction to new enviroment (they dont know its safe or what else is in there that might consider them dinner)

if your levels are OK, its probably found a hole or crevice in your rock work and will hide for a while until hunger or some other natural instinct over rides the initial fear

My parameters are pretty close to perfect. I thought it was strange. Is it typical for them to go for caves or crevices? My clownfish is a happy camper, but the chromis is mia. My girlfriend and I have been looking for about half an hour. Oh well. Would he be happier with a few others of his own kind?

Oh yeah, they will swim into tiny cracks side on if required in order to hide
leave it alone and Im sure it will come out when its ready

A single chromis will probably not do so well in your tank. They are schooling fish and do a lot better with 5 or more but since you have a 30G I would limit it to 5 total (also depends on what other livestock you have also).
