    Hey guys could you Identify this algae for me? Also what will eat it? Will a Blue tuxedo eat eat? My cuc is 10 Zebra hermits, 2 scarlet reef hermits, 2 blue leg hermits, 1 emerald crab, and 1 blue tuxedo. Stats am 0 nitrite 0 ph 7.8 nitrate 10-20 Just finished cycleing 2 weeks ago. New set up.

    did your tank cycle reacently? It looks like diatoms it feed off of the silicate from the plastics. It is completly normal and will be gone in a few weeks but if it is bothering you can put some snails in there.

    Tank was used and yes it did cycle just finished.

    Your pH looks like it could use some attention.

    yup definitely diatoms

    I had that too a couple of weeks ago

    it will eventually go away just try and suck as much off the rocks as you can when you do a water change and stir up the surface of the sand

    7.8 PH is low by standards and should be brought up to 8.2 - 8.4. What is you alkalinity? I would check with a long time staff member at your LFS. Bring a water sample and see what they say. My PH has been 8.2 since day one and is fine for my tank. I believe that PH and alkalinity work hand in hand.

    Thanks. I havnt even done my first water change yet. So I will see if it stays low or not.

    Houston... could post all your water param's? How old is your tank? What all is in there etc.? That helps a lot in diagnosing.
