I am currently setting up my 75gal tank with this sand and know that silia is something that you mostly want to stay away from but would it be ok to use this sand and seed it with livesand

Although not everybody has trouble with silica sand, I accidently put it in my 55G and soon had major algae problems. I also didn't like the darker look and when mixed with live sand you can see a big difference in the color.

There are many arguments for and against silica sand. I had a tank for 4 years in college with silica sand, no algae problems, algae is caused by high nutrient levels. Glass is silica based, so no one use a glass tank. There are benefits of using aragonite sand though! I do not use DSB and that calls for aragonite sand-if you do not intend on using a DSB and just want the appearence of sand, the silica is fine. JMHO

There is no way that I can prove that silica sand caused algae problems, but there was a buildup of algae on the sand bed because my clean up crew did not like to dig in the silicate because it became hard very quickly. I don't believe it has buffering capabilites like aragonite so it just trapped the dirt. eather will work fine, just a personal preference. Good luck

I use silaca sand in my holding systems with no problems. I got about 500+ pounds of the stuff in like 4000g of water. I use it because meds to get sucked up into it, like copper :D
