I am new to salt tanks since the beginning of August. I set up a 45 gallon tank and easily became hooked. I wanted Butterfly fish but didn't want them in the 45 gallon with corals so I decided to set up a 37 gallon tank just for butterflies a month later.

With my husband's suggestion of not having to maintain 2 tanks, he suggested I only have one. I agreed but said I had to go bigger than keeping a 45. He agreed and I got to set up a 110 gallon (48"W X 18"D X 29"H) with matching oak canopy to suspend the LED lights from inside.

It was work combining 2 tanks into 1 (took 9 hours) but was worth it. It might have only been a 6-7 hour chore but realized I didn't have enough water to top off the sump. I also realized at the last minute I didn't have any more salt to mix even if I did go buy water. I ended up racing to Petsmart to buy salt and then stopped for water.

I have a Cinnamon Clown, Hawaiian Tang, Kole Tang, Coral Beauty, Cleaner Wrasse, 4 emerald crabs and 2 nassarius snails in the tank along with a green long tentacle anemome with a few corals. I did have a Hippo Tang but lost him last week due to an Ick infection that occured 2 days after the switch to the 110 gl. I believe it came from the newest addition after the switch, which was the Kole Tang.

I will post pics since I finished rearranging my rock today to allow for good height and good coral placement.

Sorry about the Hippo. I love those guys. Not just cause the movie, but for the calming effect they give me. Can't wait to see the pics.

    nice starter tank welcome aboard!
btw once you start thinking of getting more and more fishes, instead of swapping out fishes and having you struggle keeping butterflies in smaller tanks...
90% of reefers/marine hobbyist always go bigger meaning bigger tank and happier!
