(I dont agree with tangs and stuff in smaller tanks) But isnt their scientific information that documents that smaller tanks will not stunt growth, the only thing that will is significantly reducing their nutrient intake (food)?

i agree, its takes alot to stunt the growth of a tang, they would probably only be stunted if you crammed them into a 40 gallon tank when almost full grown. they will not be stunted but they will not be healthy. upgrade the tank when you can and it will all be fine.

From what I have gathered by the responses of some of the people who believe it is O.K. to put Tangs in small tanks if they are small, they report that Tangs grow slowly. I can not comment on that since I don't select fish in that manner. However I know from first hand experience that Tangs do in fact grow quite quickly when added to a proper sized aquarium.;)
This is the rate at which my Tomini grew in my 90.

    7/15/2011 Date I purchased him

    Here he is 11/6/2011

As you can see he has tripled in size and is almost full grown.

yes they do, they do indeed. which is why i suggested he upgrade to maybe a 220 in 6 months or so. so he wouldnt have to bother upgrading again since he would need to if he got anything smaller.

I have only personally owned three species of Tangs so I don't know the growth rate of some of the larger species. I just personally don't like the approach of buying an animal that will outgrow my system with the pretense that I will upgrade later. My approach is to upgrade the system first then the inhabitants. I get very attached to my fish(I know I need therapy) and don't like the idea of having to return them later.;) IMO this is Good Aquarium Husbandry and being a Responsible Reefer.;D

it is not quite responsible to buy a fish that will outgrow your system, you never know what situation you may be in later on that will not let you upgrade.

    For a hippo a 180 gallon(6/2/2) is good for a full grown specimen, but for a naso a 8 foot (8/?/?)tank at least, 10 feet(10/?/?) is better.

yeah i was saying for both of them full grown in the same tank he would want a 250 to 300 gallon tank.
