    Hi everyone.

A member on this board who happens to be my brother in real life referred me to here.

I've been wanting to get started in the whole aquarium thing but with a focus on freshwater and invertebrates like black scorpion lobsters and viper shrimp and such.
I want to stay away from the plastic treasure chest and scuba guy floating around and aim towards a more realistic habitat for my crustacean friends!

I know for SW, size makes a difference (not to mention the motion of the ocean)...

will it make much difference in care between, say, a 3 gallon and a 20 gallon for FW though?

obviously it will influence how much and how big of a thing(s) you can keep, but in general is one size easier than another like SW?

I'm looking at starting with a 20 gallon as the critters I want to make a home for seem to require more than 10.

I need more surface area than volume in this case for a decent number of critters I am looking at.
Some of them do require underwater current like FW ghost shrimp and the like.

I'm targeting FW because of cost and time (as I go along though I may realize that the difference is negligible.)

It will make a difference, you have more lee-way with FW as far as stocking and the size of tank. The rule of thumb for FW is usually 1/2"-1" of fish per gallon. Ahh sibling rivalry!
More surface area for SW and FW is best!
