Just went to the LFS yesterday to trade in some RBTA splits and noticed there is new Koralia's out, they are called the Magnum 5,6,7,&8 and they are massive, using less power than the normal ones and producing 1,650+gph of movement, but come with a price tag of $140+ for the 5

I picked up 2 Koralia 3's yesterday and saw the 5 and 6 on the shelf. The price tag was more than double from the 4 to the 5.

yeah...I saw those at my LFS ..massive turnout. I will be more then likely getting one later but just couldnt bear parting iwth that much money. I am having power issues and need to increase the flow to my tank....so I am in a bind a little

But what I did was bought 2 maxi jets and they have a new mod kit that you can buy that increases it to some unbelievalble flow amt....(cant remember what flow and cant find boxes). I placed it in my tank and OMG..unbelievable the flow rate....cut on the cyano that I was having majorily! Plus I saved a ton of money. Diatomes are gone. It was not cheap by the time you bought the mod kit, the pump and hte magnetic holder that is now required, but still wayyyy more less then the koralies.

I did hear these do not do well on wave makers so I do not have them hooked up..but for time being..works great..much better then the 2 and 3 that I had in my tank

Not to hijak this thread but i have had my Maxi Jets woth the mod up and running for about a year on a wave maker without any issues. So I would not worry to much about that Schackmel.

$115 shipped on Ebay. I just bought a 4.. interesting that the five uses 8 watts vs. 8.5 for the four. I only paid $38 bucks for the four though.

have you had any trouble with getting your fish sucked into them? I just had my second fish sucked into them today within the 5 days that I had them...first one I was not surprised...a citron goby...however today my Mimic Tang got sucked in. He might have died and got sucked in, however this morning when I saw him he looked healthy, happy and was eating up a storm. Later, he was stuck against the mod:cry:. He was not a little fish either. I only have 2 pumps in a 135g so I know I dont have too much flow in there!

Thanks for the advice on the wavemaker...will look into that..however if I keep loosing fish into it......

small fish might be a problem but good sized healthy fish shouldnt have a problem. i seen my tang get sucked against a couple time when he was chasing food, it always frees its self instantly. most fish feel the suction so they know its dangerous and wont go near it.

edit: i have the big impeller also

Are you sure they are "new"? Realizing I have not been into reefkeeping long, they have been out since I first started (may). When did they come out?

i personally have never had a fish sucked into or against the powerhead. I am rumming 2x 1200's with mods and 1 1200 with out in my 72 so i have a bunch of flow and no issues.
