I couldn't resist when I saw this really nice Leopard Wrasse at my LFS, always wanted one. Was hiding the first few days I had her but is now out and about. She was eating frozen brine/mysis at the LFS (made sure before buying her) and is also eating well in my tank.

Am I correct that this is a female Blue Star Leopard? I have noted that their care level is sometimes listed as "expert", is this because of their eating habits? Also do Leopards go through color changes as they grow to adults?

    Here she is:

I want to say yes to a female... but it has been a while since I last looked at leopards. They are listed as expert, due to the very established tank that is required and their tendency to not accept most commercial foods. Not very tolerant of chemistry changes.

Did I mention, that is one gorgeous fish.

I read that they are easier to care for now, that a lot of the issues with the fish came from the way in which they were collected. Apparently they use a better method of collection now.

    She is GORGEOUS!!!

Thanks for all the compliments everyone, I'd never seen a Blue Star at my LFS so I snatched her up quick. Red, that's really interesting that she will change to a male, I'm thinking her coloration will change also?

Quite possible. Im more in particular to the Female Blue Star, So Hopefully not? :) lol.

I know as with fairy wrasses they change female to male when single in the tank. I know the Choat's Leopard Will as well.. So Id Assume so...

Come to think of it My ornate leopard wrasse had a very different coloration from what He is now. ... I thought it might have been juvie but maybe it was just the female coloration.

Good to know & very interesting! I'll have to give her a unisex name like Pat!
