Saw the same exact thing at a LFS near me, except his tank was a 280g. I politely offered advice which got brushed off rather quickly, so I just smiled and walked away... Their SW endeavor ended in less than a year.

There are some people you just can't help...

i usually will not offer any advice or opinion to stores like these. i gave an opinion once to a lfs some 5-6 years ago and after that i always felt like they didn't want to help me anymore when i dropped by. stores like these are usually just around to make the quick buck. needless to say i never went back again until the going out of business sale :) it was bought out and set up as another fish store and now me and the new owner are buds.

I would give some advise, it can't hurt. He might get mad, but so what? It doesn't sound like the kind of place you'd want to go back to unless serious improvements are made anyway.

My LFS cannot keep corals alive, especially SPS and some LPS. It's sad to walk in and see those corals dieing. I dont say anything, if they are losing that many coral, maybe they'll look into proper care for their livestock.

It seems they just plain quit carrying them. I saw a lady today buy a tank and have the fish held until tomorrow for her to get a chance to set up the tank. Again, no regards for cycling the tank. I have no doubt he didn't cycle the saltwater tank which very likely played into the downfall of the corals.

I think you mis read me. I meant nothing along the lines of you need a job, nor imply anything about your education, or anything like that.

What I was saying is talk to someone & you might be able to get a 'I scratch your back' type situation. Help the LFS out & maybe get some sort of love back later. Where I live I can get livestock & coral cheaper from online vendors & ebay than I can from my LFS at nearly a half price cost.

I gotcha. I suppose I could do some "consulting" or something lol. I just don't know if he'd be willing to listen.

Imo I would offer advice... just doing it the right way. I would start by asking questions to see what he thinks and then try to implement somewhere how great my tank is doing and how I run it etc.... If he has a negative attitude just forget it... it'll only be worse for him. anyways it really sucks that some people get in the business with no experience and basically provide a coral bleaching facility...

I don't think he'll want to spend the money to make the tank successful. He's 100 pounds of live rock short at least and the light issue is just not good.

I'd just show them 3reef! If they make an account and build thread, we could help them.
Also, doing too much stuff at that store IMO.
