Hello, I am not familiar with this light so I googled it. Appears to be 156 watt's of florescent's. To be honest lighting and general set up works differently for different folks.

The general rule of lighting is about 4-6 watt's per gallon for low-light loving corals and up as high as 10 watts/gallon for light loving corals. If I googled the correct fixture you picked up than you appear to be a little low at 3 watts per gallon.

Right now I run 7 watts per gallon and wish I had installed 350 watt MH's rather than the 250's I installed -- but it all works well. If you do a search on this web site you will get all the information you require on wattage and light type.

The old way of determining how much light you need was to look at the watts/gal. That is no longer the case especially with T5 bulbs. The important thing is PAR value. T5 has more PAR than PC lighting so you can run lower watts/gal. The other important thing with T5 is to be sure you have individual reflectors on each bulb. They return more light to the tank. Can't really say what you'll be able to keep since you haven't given tank dimensions. Deeper tanks need more light.

I would have to disagree... I have 3.5 wpg over my 180 and have SPS essentially to the bottom of the tank... Low light corals don't care for my tank. I agree with Glampka, WPG needs to be phased out but until someone can think of a better "rough" guidline or until everyone has Quantum meters, it will have to do.
Aquatic life DOES make PC fixtures, as well as T5 and MH fixtures...
I am assuming since the OP stated it was T5 that it IS T5...

My question to him is why did you get a 36" light unless you have an OLD 50 that is 36" long or its a 30 or 40 breeder tank?
Also did you get just a single 2 lamp fixture that they make?

I and I don't know of it makes a difference but the tANk is truly 48 gallons and it base a wetdry filter in the back part of the tank it is like 1 giant over flow sytem that extends 4inchs from the back of the tank so the tank is truly less than 48 gallons
