I had 6 t5 bulbs on my 75 gallon and I personally did not think it was overkill. I was able to keep clams and I started to keep SPS corals before I upgraded to a bigger tank.

In my current tank I have 4 250W 14k mh, and 8t5 bulbs on my 135 so I may not be the best person to tell you if you have too much light! lol.....

BUT......just because you have multiple lights does not mean they all have to be on all the time. I have 2 light fixtures over my 135, with 2 mh and 4 t5 on the left and 2 mh and 4 t5 on the right side. I run my lights on a sunrise sunset schedule. My right set of t5 come on and an hour later my right mh comes on. My left t5 comes on about a half hour before my right mh comes on. my right mh goes off and the left mh goes on. Basically they turn off in reverse that schedule. So all my lights are not on at the same time...unless the timer schedule gets off like it is now!
