I've already introduced myself, but I would like to introduce everyone to the newest reef keeper in the family.

My daughter (11 years old) is a science enthusiast, and also has aspirations to become a marine biologist when she gets older. Her interest in my reef aquarium, coupled with her intelligent nature and demand for perfection has led me to get her a tank of her own.

Since she already runs my water tests for me on a reasonably frequent basis (under my supervision), she talked me into it. We already have her first fish which is under quarantine, an Atlantic Puffer.

So, here she is doing what makes her happy ;D

    Running the tests:

And her new 45g: (just checking liverock for placement before adding plenum and substrate)

First fish: Atlantic Puffer (porcupine) currently in quarantine

hehehe...I know what you mean, Marine Biology really sounds exciting. I'm not sure though, but I don't think I would enjoy keeping an aquarium as much if I did that for a job all day every day. Works great for me as a hobby.

Even her favorite video game on the Wii is called "Endless Ocean" where you're a marine biologist and have to explore reefs and identify fish. It's pretty cool for kids :)

    Welcome !!,
Nice to see a parent thats intrested in showing a younger child ( their own or not ).
seemingly though they always want the "meanies" of the deep though lol.

Mine (9 yr old ) wants a pair of "nemos" but until she learns to pick up that room of hers.
( i may in time but not now ), she has how ever taken an intrest in helping me alot when i do tank maintanance which is a good thing i guess , thats the hard part.

Yeah, the constant barrage of questions (and sometimes silliness) can require lots of patience, especially when it's the same question several times

Just get her an angler or lanternfish since she likes the "deep sea meanies" :thumbs_up
