I just got in two Koralia Magnum 7s and they are just too much for my 150 gallon tank. Does anyone know of a way to adjust the flow to a lower level, or do I need to return them for a model with a lower rated flow (maybe the magnum 5)? My new Frogspawn coral didn't like all the turbulence.

    Thanks

How are they positioned in the tank? You could put one on each end of the thank and just aim them at the front of the glass and see if that makes a difference. I don't think you can adjust the 7's. I would try some different placement options before I returned them.

Agreed, or, if the one coral is the only one affected negatively, try relocating it, there should be a spot that is less turbulent. How about a pic of the tank?

I went to the hardware store and bought an extension cord with a built in dimmer control. I'm going to see if i can dial down the volume with that. I have each Magnum in opposite corners and facing the diagonal corner right now. They really did a good job of kicking up the crud on the bottom of the tank and getting that into the filter. I'm hoping I can find a happy medium, as I bought these online and returning them would be a PITA. Here are a few pics with the new additions. The green algae in the pics was gone in one day with the new fish. They are doing a great job of keeping the tank clean. Chocolate tang, blue tang, spotted rabbitfish, tuxedo urchin, and cleaner shrimp are the new inhabitants. Everyone seems to be happy and always hungry. Don't know how I'm going to keep feeding them twice a day (small meals) when I go back to work next week.

You cannot use a use a dimmer control on a motor like that. Dimmers are designed for resistive loads like an incandescent light bulb filament.

I agree with AZ. Not sure the dimmer will work. There has to be a way to position them just right to get the best flow.

On a side note, your tank looks really good. Nice chocolate tang! Any chance of us getting a closer look of it in the Show off your tank threads?

Bring back the dimmer. Just aim it differently or move the coral as was said before.

Thanks for the feedback. Guess I won't open the dimmer package. I'll just return these and get lower rated pumps. I wasn't thrilled with the amount of turbulence they were generating and I fiddled with them for a while. The fish were seeming to have a hard time with all of the water movement, too. Or maybe I'm just not used to this much movement yet. At any rate, seems like the best solution is to exchange these and scale down just a bit. I'll play with it a bit more before I take them out.

How is the flow with one at a time running? You might try something like a Reefkeeper Lite controller with its built in wavemaker program that switches from one to the other at a frequency you select. The RKL also gives you many other standard features and is well worth the $99.

I actually have just one running right now and thing seem happy. That might be the best solution. I don't really need a light controller as all of my lighting is already on timers, but I'll look into it anyway. Thanks for the tip.

I got my glass canopy on finally, so maybe I won't be topping off the water quite so much. Also, just used my magfloat glass cleaner for the first time. Loved it. That is until I was putting it away and one of my fingers didn't get out of the way fast enough. Damn, that hurt!

I posted a few more pics in the show off your tank section. My cats are getting almost as much attention as the new fish are.
