    Hi,

i'm new to saltwater, and came across this site.

i've been into freshwater for several years, planted tanks, mostly. I don't do shrimp or breeding, and as of late plants have lost some of their luster for me.

I got a biocube 8 to use as a freshwater shrimp only tank, with the intention of breeding them to fund the hobby and then.. meh. changed my mind.

the more i looked at the bio cube, though, the more i liked the curved front corner and overall look.. so i decided to look for a 29 gallon cube. I was still thinking freshwater at this point, but the cube that i found for sale was set up for salt water, complete with RGB dimmable LED fixture and skimmer. so.. i read up on salt water and decided to take the plunge. I got a biocube without the lid last month.

currently, i am still in the "planning" stage of the tank. i've got a more appropriately sized skimmer on the way (aquaticlife 115), an apex jr (no display model) and just received intank media and fuge baskets in the mail today. I still want to hunt down a power head of some sort, build my own stand, and of course, get livestock!

I am looking to do a live rock soft reef setup, mebby some lps and sps once i get the hang of all of this. I know that my stocking options are somewhat limited in a tank this size, but i'm considering a goby or two, some inverts and possibly a tuxedo or similar urchin. I know i have to establish the tank very slowly, and that is good. When i got into freshwater, i jumped in with both feet, and that was OK, although i spent 600$ in a weekend without have any idea of what i was looking for!

saltwater seems to be much slower paced, but much more rewarding than freshwater in many aspects, and i look forward to the process (although, don't we all just wish we could have a fully stocked and beautiful tank over a weekend? ;D

Welcome! Glad to see you're switching to saltwater. I can't wait to see your tank progress and you couldn't be at a better place to get your questions answered. The members on this site know what they're doing and have helped me out on multiple occasions. Good luck with your tank!

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    Welcome to 3reef,

Sounds as though you have many of the basic concepts down, the most important being that is initially a slow paced hobby.

Daydreaming about an instant reef tank is common, but anyone can fill a tank with livestock as long as they have the money, keeping it a live is the challenge.

Congrats on your new tank. :)
