    Thanks ... yes, the hair algae comes and goes, and I suspect in rhythm with how good the tap water is. My experience with clean-up crews has been mixed: often Mitchell (that's the hawkfish - long story) will attack the snails and eat them which makes them an expensive snack for him.

    I'll PM John Maloney, and see what he suggests.

    got your pm, this will help:

    time to do some of that tank maintenance

    1. water change
    2. blast the surface of the rocks with the baster and stir up the junk
    3. turbos, hermits, chitons, limpets, all eat hair algae.
    4. manual removal of what you can so the cleaners that survive the hawkfish, (chiton), can't finish it off.
    5. Plan for long term nutrient export so you don't have to redo it all again later.

    Nice tank by the way, I like those colonies.

    Thanks John. I'm not sure I understand your point 4: why would the cleaners survive the hawkfish better after manual removal of the hair?

    Regarding 3: do you sell a suitable crew?
