    Hello Everyone,

This week I am going to be building a new stand for my 120 G 5 ft long tank so that I can utilize a sump/fuge. I got my plans from here was well as RC and have all the necessary ideas laid out.

I am going to be adding the stand, 55-90 gallon sump/fuge, a new protein skimmer (probably an SWC 300) and I am going to drill my tank.

I have a few questions. First, what is the best way to remove 110 G of water from a tank?

I am going to remove all the live rock, fish, inverts, anemone, coral, etc but leave the sand and a bit of water for when I move the tank over to the new stand. Is this a good idea?

Then I am going to have a buddy come over and drill the tank for an overflow and put together all the necessary plumbing and such so that hopefully I can start this project in the morning and complete it in one day. Does this sound doable?

I first will build the stand, then buy the skimmer, then find a sump and return and finally purchase all the plumbing before I move anything over. Any advice? I am a bit hesitant as this will be a major undertaking for me and my tank. :-X

The best way IMO to remove that much water is to buy a 1" diameter pvc tube (flexible) and siphon it out. With that diameter, it shouldnt' take too long.

Where is your livestock going? How long do you envision drilling and plumbing the new tank? It's foreseeable that you can get it done in one day, but it will be a very long day IMO. Are you replacing your existing tank or is the new tank going in a different area?

I was thinking about getting two different 35 Gallon rubbermaid containers and placing the fish in one with a heater and the corals and inverts in the other with a heater.

This is my current tank, I am just upgrading it so that it is easier to maintain and I can get a larger skimmer that is in sump.

Should I get the drilling done first in one day, and then replace everything the next day? Will the fish and stuff be fine for one or two days in a rubbermaid container?
