New Niger trigger

My boyfriend and I recently purchased a Niger Trigger it is attacking our established Xenia! Is this common?

Our tank is a 40g reef tank w/ 2 bg chromises, 1 wrasse, 1 engineer goby, 2 peppermint shrimp, various snails, hermies and 1Niger Trigger. Assorted soft body corals

So it is common for a trigger to nip at Xenia?

 

Welcome, and yeah its common from triggerfish to nip, eat coral and inverts. as well as other small fish.

My niger triger destroyed my GSP (no biggie) but he also killed anything new that was smaller. I had to rid of him

 

Welcome to 3reef Pam! I don't know all that much about Nigers but do know they reach up to a foot long. A 40g tank really isn't suitable to keep one comfortably. I would take him back if you can, as it grows it will just become more cramped and may stir up trouble in your tank. They need tanks 75g+ to really be comfortable.
