Reef Specialty just sent us the skinny on the new Octopus Protein Skimmers. What stood out to us are the recirculating DNWB models which can be plumbed to receive water directly from an overflow. I personally had an old 24x6 air-stone skimmer back in 1991 that had this setup and I've always wanted one since. These are certainly worth a look... they will be hitting the stores any day now!

Going from overflow to skimmer sounds great but what if you have 2" dual overflows would you plumb them together and then into skimmer, would this not decrease your flow rate? Currently setting up a 240gal and am thinking about trying the new DNWB-200 as long as it doesn't restrict my flow too much.Any advice?

My old overflow had two bulkheads. One large one for the sump, and a much smaller one for the skimmer. Perhaps you could drill a hole for an additional bulkhead?

You would tee off one of your overflows to feed the skimmer. You would also place a ball or gate valve to control the amount of feed. You could also just feed it via manifold off of your main pump or by another pump.

Well have to love that FedEx Ground delivers on Saturday. So after everyone left me sons birthday party I decided to open my present ;D.

The skimmer was packed really well and this one even had instructions which I do not remember my DNW200 having any. They added a bubble plate, funnel design neck, wider neck on the skimmer cup, air intake hooks in to the riser tube, included adapters for metric to English for input and output. This skimmer seems to build with the same quality as the old style. Sure is a few weeks I will be able to tell if it truly skims better than the old style.

Currently being fed with a MaxiJet 1200. Which shold give me right around 1.5 times my water volume. Once it is broke in I want to redo my plumbing to have the skimmer fed by the overflow.
