I have a question. I want to get one of the new Octopus Xtreme Protein Skimmers, either the INT-PS-120 or INT-PS-150. My sump is a 20gal long tank (overall dimensions30x12.5x13), Can anyone tell me the inside dimensions of a standard 20long? Is the inside width 12in? if so I think i can get the int-ps-150 in there. I'd rather get that one so if/when i get a bigger tank the skimmer wont need to be upgraded right away.

Knock of a 1/4 inch for each glass panel and there you have it 1/2 inch shorter and 1/2 inch narrower on the inside If you can't get a skimmer into a 20 long to run away with a 65 gal. tank then you have far far far more skimmer then you need :) a skimmer for that tank would have a foot print of 7x10 inches and thats larger guess I ran a 20 L sump on a 90 for many yrs with a top fantom and then a red sea Berlin classic and XL then put a ETSS 600 in it.. Plenty of room Looked the skimmer up what size tsnk are going to put it on and are you going to add a refigium ? this is a rather large skimmer for a reef tank unless you are moving up to a larger system ? But the foot print is small enough to fit a 20 sump

thanks. i guess i could have figured it out the glass thickness, wasn't really thinking. As for the skimmer..I wanted big as possible for the possible upgrade in tank size.

For what its worth. I have a 20 Long and the 12 1/2" width includes the top lid support.
Actual glass is only 12 1/4" wide minus 1/2" for glass edges leaves you only 11 3/4"
Also distance between top supports is only 10 7/8" .You could probably trim back lid
support to be able to use the full 11 3/4". Hope this helps

As for the size you can really skim a tank to death as for the rim of the top of the tank that will be no problem you can cut that lip or just tilt skimmer to go in and past that .. But thats a awful lot of skimmer for your tank.. I try to under size my skimmers a little .. People really don't think much about how a skimmer works in relation to the water flow through the sump and past the skimmer. If you size the skimmer to match the flow past it is the best way I found If you add a refugium then the skimmer will be even smaller as there will be less for it to skim.. This skimmer on your tank would be flat 90% of the time . Nothing for it to do. :) Less is often times more.

So you think I will be ok with the octopus int-ts-120? also another question for you(if you have time) octopus xtreme has 2 models the TS and the PS. The only difference is the neck design, any idea why the difference?

    Thanks for the help
