Came across this orange hand sponge at my LFS and talked the owner down $10 bucks. He wanted $39.99. This is my first sponge purchase and hopefully it'll add some more color to my tank. It's still in the bag in this pic but I'll get one after I figuire out where to put it. It's kinda big..

Nice find for that price...however, they are hard to keep. Must be in shaded area of your tank, and blow it off often with a turkey baster. I kept mine for about 6 mo.

lol This is cool. Are there any special care/feeding requirements for sponges?

Aside from being in a shaded area and blow it off every once-in-a-while?

Here is a pic of the one I had...I did not know about the light thing at the time. Probably why I lost it.

    clathria spp.

they need to be placed at the deepest portion of the tank and they feed off phytoplankton. also remember they are toxic, more so when they start to go downhill. in large tanks it may not be noticed but smaller tanks pose some caution.

dont let it touch air! and when doing water changes make sure your not getting air bubbles from a low sump water level.. air = bad for sponges..

they like high flow. Ive had mine for over 10 months.

fyI: I did notice air in that bag! not good.
