I traded my green striped mushrooms for a new plate coral (small) and hammer coral (2 heads) today. The hammer is opening up nicely but the plate is still pretty much still deflated to the skeleton except the tenticles. I don't know too much about plates and was wondering if more experienced people that has had them would share a little insight on them. Their care and personal experiences with them. Also, how long does it normally take for a new plate to re inflate back to normal? Thanks.

Plates need good light and moderate flow. They can be a little picky about moving between tanks. If the tentacles are out then it will be fine. They do not pump up much when the lights are on but balloon after the lights are out. It can be fed once a week meaty foods but will do fine on good light. Feeding food to the edge tentacles and watching it get moved to the mouth is a very neat sight.

They will deflate to skeleton a lot so don't be alarmed.

These corals get damaged easily so make sure you keep it on the sandbed. They can move on there own and placing them on rocks is dangerous.;)

There are a number of different types of "plate corals". Some can inflate a fair bit during the day...others the tissue is completely retracted and you can see every little ridge of the underlying skeleton during the day.
