So i switched from two Odyssea powerheads (750ish gph, i cant remember off the top of my head). to two Hydor Koralia Evo 1400's. There is lots more flow in my tank. An extra thousand gph to be exact.
When i got home tonite i noticed that one of my chromis was floating around and banging into stuff (sleeping i assume because it then found a slower spot and went back to sleep). (at least i hope its okay).
Im afraid this may be too much flow for my fish such as Pajama Cardinalfish (trio) and my Royal Gramma.
Am i just being over concerned? surely fish get more turbulent flows in the ocean right?
Should i maybe turn off one pump at night so it is more peaceful???
    Any feedback would be appreciated...
    Thanks,
    JP

You have a total of 2800 gph in a 55 gallon tank
which workd out at just over 50 x tank volume per hour

which as far as fish are concerned is not something I would be concerned about in terms
of amount of flow, currently keeping fish in an aquarium with over 80 x tank volume per hour

IME its normally my corals that indicate they are having difficulty in high flow enviroments
LPS corals with well expanded fleshy polyps are normally the 1st corals to let me know they are not happy with their location

even in a tank with a total of 50 x tank volume in turnover per hour, there will be areas of less flow and fish can find calm areas if required, unlike corals that are fixed to where you placed them

I would not turn the pump off at night because the flow its creating is probably of benefit in terms of

creating additional surface movement and thus helping with oxygenation
creating turbulance in areas its flow crosses the path of flow created by the other power head - this being very beneficial to keep SPS corals clear of any debris that might get trapped against the branches with singular directional flow

my experience is that whenever I have increased flow, with the exception of very fleshy LPS corals, everything else, including fish, seem to require a period of adjustment and thereafter IMHO benefit from it and in some cases show definite signs of enjoying it
( I had 2 clown fish that used to surf the flow from a 1250 gph wavemaker Korallia clone
and I had a yellow tang at one time that also seemed to use it as a fish version of a hamster excercise wheel )

    Steve,
Thank you for your detailed information in regards to flow and how it effects my aquarium and its inhabitants. Yes, my total turnover is 57x per hour when you include my canister filter. My chromis is fine today, it was just taking a very turbulent nap through the currents. I was afraid it was my first casualty... I definitely noticed my chromis enjoying the new flow patterns during the day yesterday, as they were letting it proper them back and forth.
    Thanks again for your help,
    JP

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
I agree with Steve (go figure).

The fish will become accustomed to the increased flow.

The anemone may move in response, but that is normal and will find an ideal spot.

The increased flow and surface agitation will benefit the tank.

The thing I like about koralia is the ability to simply angel the PH in different directions.
