You have a point although I think it would take a lot of crud to do so.. That said, look how powerheads come apart for easy cleaning these days.. I bet it could be done and you could soak the thing in vinegar.

Welll it is a hydroelectric turbine... so we are talking about flowing water passing through it... making a low pressure area and producing power.... not the same as a pump driving flow. Cool design. Plenty of efficiency gains still to be had with hyrdo power. I would not be looking for this on the shelf aof a LFS. ;)

From the summary and the fact that there seems to be a pair of magnets on the shaft of the thing, I was under the impression that this was a pump.

Aye - good point, it was designed as a hydroelectric turbine - I could not help but think there could be some applications from the design put to prop pumps in our hobby though - that was my intent - sorry if it was misleading.

Well... things can be driven too and it is like an eductor and helping flow.... but I took it as a way to draw water through a turbine more efficently to increase output.

Somewhat of an inside joke, if inside meant to everyone from another whole internet community much larger than 3Reef.

Long story short, it's a long running tech news aggregation site. Nobody reads the article before posting in the threaded discussion under every story, which is a summary that links to the full article. One of the oldest running memes, from said site: RTFA. (By "pretty old", I mean Urban Dictionary has a definition from 2004 for it, and I have personally seen it earlier, probably about 4 years earlier.)
