new pump is really noisy

I've recently had a string of problems with my skimmer. octopusBH-100F

I contacted Octopus directly and they were nice enough to send me a new motor. This fixed my problem. The motor has been installed for less than a month.


In the past few days it's been growling steadily. Rather annoying but the skimmer was working so I could put off replacing the whole thing...

Today, every so often, the growl will change to a scream type sound that's much louder. And then back to a steady growl.

I stuck my hand in the skimmer and held the motor to make sure it wasn't vibrating or something... it felt like it was running very smooth and it's not touching anywhere other than the little port it plugs into.


Is this 'new' motor just going out already? I'm not familiar with this sound.

Was the new motor installed during the problem while you were in France?

 

If the pump isnt vibrating or touching anything else around it, make sure there isnt an air pocket inside the pump or impeller shaft. If all is good, then contact the company again and describe your issue to them.

The motor arrived the day before we left, so I hadnt installed it yet. I installed it the weekend after we got back.

After I posted this, I had to leave on some errands. I got home about 2 hours ago and the darn thing is as quiet as it used to be

its been bad for a few days and when I finally post, it fixes itself! ... 8) I reckon Ill keep an ear on the prob... see if it comes back or not...

from what Ive learned from your posts, Im guessing an air pocket

 

Hopefully! I was worried maybe it got burned up if it was in place during that low water level deal.

 

I was thinking along similar lines... when I first heard it, the water level in the skimmer was the first thing I checked. It is running quietly like a champ now... guess I am happy
