45 gallon 220 UK litres DT
10 gallon, 50 UK Litres sump, new pump rated at 1.7metres tank from pump to water lvl 1.2 metres, 24x24x24

My new pump turned up, its rated qmax 1300ltr hr,

TMC AQUARIUM V2 POWER PUMP FISH TANK AQUARIUM MARINE TROPICAL SUMP POWERHEAD | eBay

When i had the rio attached at 2400 lph my current setup required that i just shut the tap half way on the return pipe, it also had a valve return back to the sump to adjust the flow,

Now the new pump is set to its highest of 1300lph, and to get it quiet i have to shut the valve on the return nearly all the way, this in turn causes the water to rise in the overflow, from the video is there anything i can do to improve the dreaded gurgling noise this new pump brings with it, and does the flow look sufficient, Thank you...

P.S Video on its way, :)

DO NOT put a valve on the return to the sump! Putting a valve on the return pump actually uses LESS energy- it's OK to put one there. Look it up

Is the noise coming form the point where it returns to the sump?
    IF so:
Look up 'reverse durso' build one of those- noise problem solved.

Thanks for reply Todd, the stop tap was already fixed into the return when bought, but I can leave that fully open, this is whats so confusing multiple people rwpky put a stop valve ob the return to lesson noise, or no never do that, do not put a valve on return hose it burbs pump out quicker, overheats, then u say I can cause saves energy, I dont know qhat to do other then what works?

Common misconception about a valve on a return pump.

Just about any pump these days is the type with the spinning fan spiral looking, syntrifigal (sp?) pumps.
These work less, and use less watts when the return is vavled off some.

If you put a valve on the return to the sump- the moment it doesn't match the return flow from the pump- you're cleaning up salt water!

Did I miss where you said most of the noise is coming from?

from the overflow up top?- use a stockman standpipe or a durso

at the bottom going in to the sump- the reverse durso, filter socks helps too.

Plus I've heard that putting a valve going to sump can get dirty & can get clogged and then tank will spill over. But I think that's kinda what Todd is saying.

The Noise is the gurgling noise coming from the weir drain back into sump, i have made a Durso standpipe,

    This is the Video
MOV_0179.mp4 Video by srimarcsri | Photobucket

but not helping me much, if i turn up the flow on the pump the noise will go or if i shut the return valve some the noise will go, but leaving the return valve fully open, the noise is there constantly, do you know of any videos or instructions how to make a reverse durso, youtube does not give me much, problem i have is the drain in the weir is 3/4" pipe, im finding it very hard to find the pieces needed for a stockman...

    Thanks so far
