    Greetings all!

I've used this site to gather a lot of the information about how to start my new reef tank. I've never owned a saltwater tank before, let alone a full blown reef system, but the wife and I were up for a new challenge and this seemed like a good one.

At this point, the tank is on its way (95 Gallon All Glass "Wave") as well as the lighting (Outer Orbit HQI 2x150W Metal Halide + T5 light strip). I'm looking into a LifeReef sump/Refugium/Protein Skimmer combo, just waiting to get the tank and stand in house to be able to measure out what'll fit before I order that.

Then it's salt mix, an RO/DI system, heaters, powerheads, testing kits, a refractometer, a UV sterilizer and substrate.

THEN maybe I can get started actually putting something together. Boy, my wallet hurts already :)

Thanks, glad to be here! I'm going to try to get a thread going in the pics section once I have equipment and keep it up to date with progress. Fingers crossed I'll some day be one of the ones that garners jealousy from the readers here :)

I've read in a few places that a UV filter has solved some problems, a few people swear by them (simply because you avoid certain issues) but I haven't read anywhere that it does any harm. I'd rather avoid an issue altogether than have one and discover the fix is a $100 component I could've had in the system all along. If there's some threads you (or anyone else) are aware of here that discuss pros/cons of UV filtering I'd love to read up. I haven't bought it yet!

Definitely good to have uv for preventative measures. They just kill good organisms as they do bad. Most of us here don't use them. With the growing popularity of the refugium , they are slowly becoming obsolete. I have never personally used one.

I LOVE the wave tanks!! Awesome! Sounds like you are one of the few noobs who actually did their homework. Can't wait to see what you turn this into.
