Just received my Reef Octopus (OCTX-160xs in sump)- got it all setup in the sump and WOW is it loud! The pump drowns out all other noises that the tank makes and is just really pushing the limits of what I can handle.
The pump is a PSK-600. Anyone know what I can replace it with that will still perform well with this skimmer model?
P.S. This Skimmer is amazing! I love it (minus the new train station sound effects).

Thanks Shackman. Are you referring to the 'bubble blaster' pump? And whats the damage to the wallet on that one?

I had the same problem with mine..very unacceptable. I was told by Jeremy from Coralvue that it will quiet down after it breaks in. It never did.. I gave up on it. Went back to my ultra quiet psk-150 from Eshopps. I am sending my Octopus back to American Express with my buyers return plan.

I myself don't have a problem with the pump being noisy but the output, I turned mine back into the sump. Mine has the psk1000 on it.

Sound is a very subjective thing.. but if you are using something like freight train to describe your pump something is not right.

Sicce pumps are quality pumps and not noisy. Not exactly sure what to tell you though cause I have not had one in my hand.

So is it just vibration noise... rattling, humming, air draw???

Im running a sicce return pump, psk1000 on the skimmer, and 2 sicce power heads, No pump noise from any of them. I love the sicce pumps myself cause hardly any heat build up, the quiet operation, and with the circuit board they wont start up backwards. That's just me.
