The smart move is to probably build according the the worst possible condition for the entire thing. 1/2" acrylic might do it but 5/8" or 3/4" might be a safer bet. When treading new ground, going a little overboard isn't a bad idea.

With acrylic, you don't join the panes with silicone but use a chemical solvent to weld the two sections together. If you could find a good acrylic supplier, get the two panes cut and welded and then install the window as one piece. Might have to do that before finishing the top, but I don't know the specifics of where this is being installed.

You wouldn't be able to cut glass in an " L " shape....
I don't know how they do real thick glass..??
But a run can't stop then go in a 90 deg. turn...
Acrylic would work, But you could buy MANY bottles of Ouzo.. for what it would cost..
    But it's a beautiful design..

    Good Luck, Larry

I honstly have no idea what acrylic will run in Greece. Stateside 3/4" runs $20-$25 a square foot

That is a neat design. I would add some support into the stand around the bottom of the lower half and at the acute angle you have in the L. I'm thinking of angle iron framing connected together using threadded rods. The metalwork could be covered in an attractive epoxy or hidden within the framework of the stand.

I would also do closed loop circulation with the intake at the very bottom of the tank. Hopefully to keep stuff from settling.

At for asthetics. That is an awesome design. I imagine a falloff reef, maybe a 400 watt MH above the deep part and a 250 above the shallow. A freaking huge clam on a sand bed in the deep part. Rock glued to the back to make a very steep clif with some flat pieces used to form shelves.

    Great idea.

I would also have to agree on acrylic. You would definitely want a bulkhead cut in the lowest section with a powerhead blowing up to keep the water circulated down there. I love that design though. If you decide to do this, please make a build thread. We would love to see this project come to life.
