I am new to reef aquariums. i have had a salt water aquarium for awhile now. but now i have started another tank that i want to make into a reef tank. I ordered my metal Halides today: 2x 250w for my 65 gallon tank.

The lights will be here soon.

I was wondering, as new to keeping corals, i was wondering what is a good coral to start with. What is the easiest coral to take care of and mantain?

If tank is now fairly mature...most any soft corals are easiest to keep.

    Also maybe some frogspawn.

Place them at the bottom of the tank. They will do fine.

Just make sure you think ahead of what you want to do with this tank later one. If you pick up Athelia or Xenia then that stuff is hard to get rid of once it starts to spread. Read up on some sofities and choose from there.

    Almost forgot...welcome to 3reef. :)

    WELCOME TO 3reef!

I was told and have come to find out personally that if you keep xenia away
from any rocks or glass, keep them on a small rock in the middle of your sand
they will not spread beyond that rock.

I have a really nice piece of Silver pulsing Xenia and they are attached to a
3" rock. they have covered that rock completley but havent gone and
    where past that.

Unlike the small piece of Red Sea Xenia that I have that was on a rock
leaning against the side of my tank, it split and has moved up the glass
and across the rocks that were close to the glass.

The reason I like them is they are a real good indication as to how good
your water quality is. if they are not happy something is really wrong.

Mushrooms are impervious to most things other corals will die from. Good luck I am up to 3 corals so I am also new. I have a micor reef of 12 gallons and I love hobby so far.
