So after fighting with a stupid mechanical filter always putting micro bubbles in the tank we decided to build a refguim. Just got it all in today and hook up everything is working great. However my tank is cloudy now I am assuming from the live sand.. Will this settle ????

+1 did you washed the sand throughly? normally live sand needs to be washed for a long time before looses all that debris dust like matter, but like stated above; it should clear up according on your filtration capacity.

No like a moron I didn't wash the sand. Tonight the tank is looking clearer but now my PH just went through the roof and I lost a coral beauty. Now I just hope my 2 clowns and blue hippo make it!.

Mistakes happen. that's why this place rocks! just ask, always people will tell you what they think or what they would do. And it's always great to hear different things about what to do.

Don't call yourself a moron yet. I would NEVER wash live sand. That cloudiness a lot of people wash away contains a good bit of a beneficial bacteria. It usually clears up quickly. Normally whenever you add sand to the tank you remove all the live stock, add the new sand without washing it and let it get cloudy. Wait for everything to balance back out and add the livestock back to the tank.

What you probably could have done would be to set up the refugium and fill it with aquarium water. Than waited for the cloudiness to go away and the pH to level off before plumbing it into the rest of the system. IMO

    Live and learn.

+2 on NOT washing LS. Wash old sand before transplanting into another tank. Wash it good. But not LS.
