Hey all! So I "upgraded" to an AquaC Remora with the Maxi-Jet 1200. It's been on for about 5 days now, and is pulling a weak tea at best, and only maybe a few ounces a day. The Prizm was pulling a nice, dark coffee looking skimmate with a half a cup to a cup every other day. So, just for giggles, they're running side by side now, and even though I just plugged it back in, the Prizm looks like it's going to start foaming again like it was never off the tank. Oh well, I'll update as things go along and any ideas for the Remora would be appreciated (I gave it a good wash down when I got it). Again, sorry for the run-on paragraph, but my formatting is still all nutty for who-knows-why reasons.

It probably just needs to break in

That's what I'm thinking, too. Still, it is a tad frustrating. Anyway, with it doing the light skimming it is, do you think I should leave the Prizm on while it breaks in as skim-insurance?

    +1 on above
new skimmers can take a while until the produce optimum skimmate
comparing a new unbroken in skimmer with a seasoned vet is going to give you a false sense of the worth of the Remora
leave the Remora on for a few weeks, and then try out this competition
you may find the results are different , from the test your doing now

Idk, as I have not tried that exact test
but I do know that my new reef octpus felt inferior to my previous Deltec for a week or so, before it kicked in and started to produce much darker skimmate.

But running both won't produce any negatives (ie making the Remora slower to break in)?

    It should not do Ruminus
and as you stated it does at least give you the feeling of security on the reef tank with the broken in skimmer still doing the bulk of the work for now

Great! Thanks for the input, and as I said, I'll update this as things move along.

So, overnight the Prizm decided to super skim and I ended up with a wet carpet and about 3 gallons missing from the tank, while the Remora still had nothing, not even the weak tea it had been pulling. Both are off the tank and the remora is running in a 5 gallon bucket of fresh water and vinegar. Going to let this go for a couple of hours, rinse everything, and put the Remora back in the tank. We'll see if this helps at all.

Time for a little thread Necromancy, but as an update, the Remora did eventually take off and is now pulling a thick chocolatey goo. Thanks all for the help. Anyone need a Prizm for a few bucks?
