I'm curious though, because after seeing this unit in operation at the store, it had a 4:1 waste ratio not the 1:1 they advertise on the site.

Also when i read the spectrapure website they also use 120v for their booster pumps. Where are these 12v and 24v you speak of?

    BOOSTER PUMPS AND DELIVERY

Also trying to research aboiut the company i read a few articles saying they were one of the new companies to watch out for their innovative products

Feature Article: The Innovative Aquarium Products of InterZoo 2010 | Advanced Aquarist's Online Magazine

and on top of that i tried researching not a lot of people has this unit but the people who did i read all loved it. As you say it being a Chinese knockoff, well everything we buy is a Chinese knockoff, china and India are the manufacturing capitals of the world for plastics and stuff like that. all the casings, housing units and tubing all comes from there. And then get assembled over here and the companies logo slapped on them. I guess the difference is the membranes.

I'm not trying to be stubborn but this store thats trying to order it for me has some of the best tank setups and rarest corals i can see and they use it for all their tanks, they even used to use spectrapure and switched to this brand because they said this brand is better.

And the fact that Spectrapure site will only let me order with american credit card makes it impossible for me to get it.

Well my patients and shopping around are going to pay off i think. Well spectrapure is a hassle to shop with if you live in Canada. But marine depot will price match and ship to me. YAY so with shipping from them it comes to 292 dollars us which right now i believe is like 275 -280 dollars Canadian. I love how our dollar is doing so strong right now, makes buying in the states a breeze.

Spectrapure does not use 120V AC. They use a 120V to 24V DC converter like all legitimate companies when it comes to safety. The higher voltage is never close to the water. I also witnessed the Vertex unit had simple twist connectors on some wiring, not even shrink tube or even but splice connectors, talk about an accident waiting to happen.

If they are running it at 4:1 then its a simple RO/DI with a booster pump which you can get anywhere. All the vendors carry one or you can buy any RO system and add your own booster pump for about $125 US. Its simple.

Maybe some vendors use knock off components but those who choose to stay in business long term use quality components that are NSF and UPC tested and certified. This process costs money and a great deal of time but pays off in quality, many chinese products are inferior, just look at the toys, paints. plastics and many other things being recalled or banned. Just because they look the same does not mean they are functionally the same, far from it. Quality cost money so don't shop by price alone. As I have stated before, lok at every piece of the puzzle, how well it works and how long it lasts. There really is a difference.
