Hey my tottally awsome wife works at a greenhouse and garden center and some how came home one day with a nature's spring reverse osmosis unit for free!! [smiley=2thumbsup.gif] No she didn't steal it she offered her boss 50$ for it and he said she could have it! Kudus to her boss! but it has sit around for a while the hoses are a little moldy on the outside ??? I hooked it up and sure enough water came out the other end I tested it for phos. and it came out to 0.5 ? but that seemed good for phos. that is all I have tested for so far does any one know what I should be looking for to know if this thing is ok to use Oh also I brought a sample into my work and the lab tested it for me for total suspended solids and it came out to 22.4 which they said was really good also how can I be sure there is not something that will wreak havoc on my tank hidden in this water?
    help
    thanks'

    Hey cool freebie,

I would talk with Walter on this one. Walter the H2O Guru email

I think it is TDS- total dissolved solids and if that reading is at .22 which is good for human consumption but not good for a reef tank.
Do you have a picture of this RO unit?
Also if it does not have a DI filter you can get one from Walter the H2o guru pretty cheap.

To be sure I would ask the expert Walter the h2o Guru.

    hi nuat!
I gave you a brand name it's nature's spring! I thought the test they ran was t.d.s. too. but wayne the lab guy said I should test it for t.s.s I figured he would know he's lisenced by the state as a waste water guy he said it would never come out below 100 and was quite impressed by the 22.4 I think that is p.p.m this was the first gallon I made and the moldy output hose was sitting in the water I made I didn't know if that would cause it to read higher but I suspected it might?
Thanks for the help I'll get in touch w/ the water guru

You can get a TDS meter from Walter also.
Then test your tap water and then test the water coming out of the unit.
Do you have a picture of the unit?

Same company different model though smaller I'll get a pic up sometime tomarrow so you can check it out! I looked around and can't find any "parts" or replacement filters for it none of the #'s match those listed on the unit except one of the carbon filters!

What's the cost of a TDS meter? Are there differences in quality between meters? Would this be a good invwestment prior to getting an RO/DI unit?

    TIA

That would be a good question for Walter the h2O Guru.
And if you have an RO unit you need a TDS for one to see what your tap water reads and after the water is pasted threw the RO unit. also the TDS meter is used to tell you when filters are needing to be changed.

    airwaterandice meter page http://www.airwaterice.com/tds_meter1.htm
I will talk with Walter and see if we can get a deal.
