This fish caught my eye at the LFS but he's been acclimated and added to my tank last night he hid behind the heater and would occasionally pop out then when it was lights out he swam around and finally disappeared in the live rock somewhere havent seen him since... are they usually this shy? my clowns swim and race back n forth all day

that royal gramma behavior is normal. Give him some time to acclimate. Just keep an eye out for any major aggression on him from your tank mates.
