I saw in another post that you decided on a 30g so I would get 60lbs of sand from this website Sand its most likely cheaper and a lot of people use it on the forum

Buy base rock from Reefcleaners. With live rock, you won't know what you are getting.

You're sure you're going to pass up a biocube? IMO, they come with everything needed to start a good nano reef, and it's all built in! :D

An air pump MIGHT come in handy, I know that there are some models of skimmers that are powered by air pumps, so it might be good to keep on hand. I know that the biocube skimmer comes with its own air pump.

Koralia power heads, and maybe Vortech(very expensive) are great choices for a nano reef.

As for the shrimp you want, make sure you don't buy one with claws. Id say a blood red shrimp or a cleaner shrimp, along with some peppermints would be a great choice. I made the mistake of buying a Coral Banded Shrimp. I had to buy some Peppermint shrimp to eat some Aiptasia, and a couple ours after I put them in, I saw my CBS ripping them in half with his claws. Arrow crabs have claws and a tendency to be aggressive. These are two inverts that you should avoid.

cant find the biocube anywhere for less than 170$. which is how much its costing me to set up this entire 30gal tank. including deco and fish. so i think I got a good deal. :)

ok, reefcleaners it looked like only had base rock. did i just miss the live rock?

Just go to your LFS and pick a pound or two of live rock and reefcleaners does not sell live, only base rock. Getting all live rock will cost you a fortune

Its gunna cost alot more to setup up a tank..rather then get a biocube..

    Think about it..

    A light,small powerhead,filter,tank,overflow is built in..

If you go with a 30g tank, you have to buy the tank, buy a light(a bigger one) filter(bigger one)skimmer(bigger one) sand(more sand) rock(more rock)

Its just obvious, the bigger you go, the more money you spend.
