    well i think I will wait a few months and then think about the mandarin again. they are awsome but I shoul probably get my tank going before I think about an even more complicated addition. lol :)

    WoW SWG, is that MR's signature? XD and I know. I'm getting a 55 gal tomorrow!!! Maybe a hang-on fuge to raise pods too, so maybe I'll try a mandarin again at some point in time. :)

    what about a yellow banded possum wrasse? in addition to the fish i already want? (pinkbar goby 4in, 2 clowns, 1 yellow stripe clingfish, shrimp, serpent star) they are supposed to get to be 3in, they are non aggresive and reef safe. or is that to many fish?

    No sorry, 4 fish is pretty much maxed out on a 30g.

    So does my filter and powerheads and protein skimmer need to be on when im cycyling the tank?

    yes, yes it is, and makes perfect sense in this situation. Hopefully I'll get my 55 gallon soon

    You dont have to have a skimmer going...Power heads yes..Filter yes..

    A skimmer will take out organics in the water or in other words fish poop basically..If you have nothing in the tank, there is nothing for it to skim..

    I ran a skimmer on my 29g for about 2 weeks and i didint have but a few crabs in there and nothing ever came out of the skimmer..When i added my first 3 fish, it started collecting the next few days..
