    Hey Guys,

I am in the process of turning one of my 55 gallon tanks into salt. I have my little 15 nano going, with crushed coral. I wish I would have put sand, but no going back. I would like to use the CC to seed the new sand bed in the 55 but I didnt want the look of the CC. I have up with an idea that mite let me use the CC in the sand bed.

I would like to see what the CC would look like in the middle, with some rocks seperating the CC from the SB. I made a cheap image, to help my thoughts get out, lol. Let me know what you think.

IMO, the idea is good but... How deep of a sandbed are you gonna have? Its not gonna be to noticible. Plus, the CC and LS will eventually mix up and there goes your idea. Just my opinion! Good luck with that 55!!!!

And after they mix, the finer sand will sift down to the bottom of the sandbed leaving the courser crushed coral on top.

That being said, however, a small cup of crushed coral is not going to be noticable in the sandbed of a 55 gallon tank. :)

Thanks guys, I was thinking about putting rocks to seperate the two different substrates, like when you do sand and gravel in a freshwater tanks. Well I will just have to see what looks good. I mite just ditch the idea later, lol. When I get the tank started Ill get some pics going,

what i did once is put some live cc in an old yogurt container with small holes in the bottom, then i put on top of the sandbed. that way the live cc seeds your sand and doesnt mix in it. then after a couple of weeks all you have to do is take that container out.

That's a great suggestion. Some folks also put their crushed coral into a piece of pantyhose but if you're anything like me, you won't find a single pair of those torture devices in my house :)
