I got a sand sifting goby yesterday and it sure is doing its job. My only complaint is the sandstorms that it is creating in my aquarium. I have not had a sandsifter in my sandbed before this. On the positive side, it has made quick work out of all of the algae that was on the sandbed and has returned it to almost perfect condition. Will the sandstorms stop? The goby can only get so deep, will the sand get used to it and will everything calm down after a while?

how old is your tank? As the tank matures the sand may settle down as the biofilm forms, however if the tank is mature already then it is just the fish! I love sandsifters but this is the exact reason I do not have them......they put sand EVERYWHERE!

Tank has been set up since last July, but I upgraded tanks in Jan and really stirred up the sand when moving it over to the new tank.

they will slow down eventually, I had to use a filter sock on my skimmer return and switch it out everyday for about 5 days. had to clean the powerheads as well. but everything got back to normal after a week or so.

They put sand every where. The sand covers ur coral and if u dont removes the sand from ur coral they start to die! I would take it back and get sand shifting star fish

mine hasnt covered any of my corals, unless you have a bunch sitting in the sand you should be fine.

I have a diamond sand sifting goby and very fine oolitic sand with lots of flow... I don't have any problems with the sand he displaces. I also haven't lost a coral or even noticed a coral covered in any sand... including the plate coral that I've had sitting in my sandbed for well over a year...

I wouldn't worry to much about it... I prefer having a clean looking sand bed that the sandstorms don't matter that much to me.

i have noticed that when he gets full, he hides under a rock and the sand has a chance to calm down again, i think that it will be ok after a while, i do really like having a nice clean sand bed, havnt had that in a long time

Mine(yellow head sleeper) causes some pretty bad sand storms aswell. Its been over a month for me and he is covering all coral on my sand bed. This is just what you gotta deal with for these fish!
