You can run MRC's with drop in pumps. I have run several that way before but most drop in pumps that can push the water needed for good beckett skimming would add too much heat to a system. They truly need very good pumps.

If you want a submersible pump, you should probably look at needle-wheel skimmers. Maybe, even one with a mesh mod.

If you ever go to Planet Reef, go to the bathroom and look through the door into the sump room. I designed that 4 beckett, 5 foot tall skimmer (The Poopmaster 5000) based off an MRC base. (I've been told by others that since I left, no one knows how to adjust it now though even though I told everyone. If it's not working now, it's not my fault).

Is it just me, or is this tantamount to saying, "Well, since I can't seem to control my gambling addiction here in Las Vegas, I'm buying a condo in Atlantic City and we'll see if it's any better out west."

Wait, that's wrong. It's maybe more like, "Ever since I tried a Pina Colada, I can't stop drinking. I'll fix that. No more Pina Coladas. Bartender!! Your best bottle of Champagne!"

Hold on--I think this captures it: "This whole weight loss thing is killing me. I've made up my mind. This is it. I'm going to buy and eat this whole pecan pie, and then I'm on the straight and narrow for NOW ON!!" LOL

Jakerupe--I'm not pointing the finger. I've got it worse than you. :)

Get yourself a P/M bullet and you won't do any better, They will run off of a mag inor out the sump I have my Bullet set up out of the sump and my SAS 9700 Dolphin runs everything but a mag 1800 would run the skimmer also . I always ran ETSS since for ever on larger tanks but after the bullet By P/M I'll never go back..

The capacity to pull and push the pump should be greater and strong if you are really interested to know get the skim. Just focus on the power of the pump.
