    The reason i use l/r and i dont use a damsel is because although damsels a re a very tough fish and can handle a lot. I belive it is unessesary to put that kind of stress on any fish, and i also belive it is almost mean to treat any animal that way.. although, it iws everyones own way of doing things and they have that right. i do not see why u would stress a fish out that way when it is unnessasary. IMO!!!

    :laugh: foot in mouth!! :laugh:

    I used some raw shrimp when I cycled my tank and it seemed to of done the job. I see both your points but I suppose if you dont want a damsel in your tank then what else can you do? My current tank isnt very big (new one on order ;D ) so I went with the shrimp method, then my clowns where introduced and they are still with me today...and happy. :)

    I guess if my job gets stressful then I'm to tell my boss that it's not nice to be that way towards one of Gods creatures and to never let that happen again, right........:-/
    Better update my resume then....:-[

    To each his own folks. Some folks prefer to cycle with fish, some don't. Either way you like it is fine by me :)

    Well if you step back and really understand the bacterial nitrification process and how it works then to think by tossing in a dead piece of meat to rot or a tank full of L/R with nothing in their tank to supply the demand of the bacteria in the rock all that dies off will occur also.

    So with dead rotting flesh you will have bacteria spiking up wards only to die off and , with a tank full of bacteria laden rock with improper levels of bacteria with no demand for them you get die off. so with any of these methods you have a tank that is always unstable at best..

    With a single fish in there supplying a steady level of demand the bacteria will grow in the proper numbers and types to support that fish and when its aged long enough you then start to add fish that you want at one fish every 2 to 3 weeks so the bacteria will stay level and grow in numbers and types to support the added demand on them.. Corals add so little demand its not as a rule an issue . I see more people with more problems then ever before over the last 15 to 20 yrs when all the new ideas started to pop up. As for cycling with a dead shrimp what about hos poor butt he paid the ultimate price he died to supply food and wound up a corpse rotting in a aquarium LOL Noe thats Cruel and a waste of food so its also a sin !
    And to remove a fish or any animal and put it in a tank or zoo is cruel to hear some talk ?
    But hey its everyones elses tank and algae and health issue not mine I never have a problem, or problems I see so many always fighting :)
    And they keep doing the same thing expecting a different results :)

    @Tangster:
    There was only one survivor from my previous crash. My coral beauty, who is now doing pretty OK in my 20 gallon which also houses a single cinnamon clown fish. Needless to say the clown takes exception once in a while with the coral beauty being in there, which is totally understandable. My 20g was only intended to house one fish anyway, but, seeing I had to rescue the angel and for a lack of another establised place I placed her in there.

    My question is ... instead of placing a damsel to start things off could I place the coral beauty instead?
    If it will cause her harm in any way I don't want to do it. She deserves to live at any cost given what she's been through.

    Thanks.
